CLAYTON BROOK

Manchester (2008)

New East Manchester promoted the regeneration of the Clayton Brook area to deliver a scheme which retains the residents on site in a sustainable community in new contemporary homes and with access to excellent public transport. The masterplan encompassed the demolition of existing terraced housing that was no longer considered viable and its replacement with 432 houses and apartments many fronting the Ashton Canal or new amenity spaces. The new homes will achieve ‘very good’ on BRE Eco Homes rating, the canal side apartment block through its use of solar and wind power will raise the overall scheme to ‘excellent’. The design incorporated significant use of high quality public realm works to add amenity value to the neighbourhood. The first phase of housing of 134 dwellings was designed in close consultation with the existing residents.
