London (2006)

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea invited MBLA to undertake a feasibility study for the extensive refurbishment and remodelling of Kensington Central Library, which is Grade II* listed with a particularly fine interior. The study included for the replacement of all services in the building as well as strategies to make the building more inviting and accessible to a wider constituency.

The study formed the basis of a four year feasibility and implementation programme and provided a range of options from modest intervention to extensive alterations. These were presented to the Council for consideration of the future potential of their library service .  The visions enabled examination of widening the role of the library services to include an increased leisure and community offer whilst ensuring that the library’s extensive archive was exploited to the full.
