Canal Quarter Hanley by MBLA Architects + Urbanists

In 2009, MBLA were invited by Urban Splash and Stoke City Council to participate in an ideas competition for a site on the periphery of Hanley town centre. Our ideas were influenced by the desire to retain the existing Emma Bridgwater Pottery on the site and use this as a link to the areas rich history of ceramics and demonstrate the significance and future potential the factory had. The masterplan and its architecture responded to the cultural and social context and collective memory of the area and to the sites topography and surrounding landscape
